Pamoja Children’s Centre
The Pamoja Children’s Centre is located in Vuga, Kenya, where poverty rates are high. Pamoja has educated vulnerable children and orphans in Vuga during the past two decades, making schooling accessible to children who would not otherwise be able to afford quality early childhood education. Besides preparation for kindergarten, students receive two nutritious meals and snacks every school day. Very few of the students at the school can afford to pay school fees or purchase uniforms. Currently Pamoja enrolls 68 preschool students and provides a living wage for 3 teachers, 2 cooks, and a night watchman.
Support from a founding international NGO came to an end a few years ago. In short, it is not possible for the Pamoja Children’s Centre to self-sustain in current prevailing conditions in Vuga and the population of children served. Therefore, program sponsorships provide essential funding to keep this community resource open.

Jameelah’s Vineyard Academy
Jameelah’s Vineyard Academy provides early childhood education for students from preschool through grade 8 in Kwale, Kenya. Jameelah’s is registered with and approved by the Kenya Ministry of Education as a private school. They currently enroll 398 children. In the terminology used in Coastal Kenya, a high percentage of the students are orphans and vulnerable children. Approximately 40% are unable to regularly pay their educational expenses, so although tuition helps to support the school, there is currently a gap between income and program costs. Therefore, program sponsorships make the school accessible to families who cannot afford to pay for their children’s education. All students receive two nutritious meals and snacks each school day. Jameelahs employs 19 teachers, and an additional 5 staff workers (cooks, cleaners, watchman). They operate a school van to transport students who live in distant rural settings to school on a daily basis. This school has made great gains toward self-sustainability in a few short years.
With assistance from Waterbrook Hills, they have purchased their school plot, built classrooms for all 8 grades, installed play equipment, built an approved kitchen with efficient cook stoves, constructed toilets, and installed a 200 meter deep well to have a reliable source of fresh water. Program sponsorship makes up the gap between funds brought in through modest tuition and their monthly operating expenses.
